As a Senior Children’s Residential Support Worker, you will work as part of a residential childcare team providing support for the children and young people with their physical, emotional, and social needs with an emphasis on promoting their personal growth and independence. You are required to work on your own initiative and as part of a team, you will be to preparing and assisting the children and young people to fulfil the aims of their person-centred plan. You will support the children and young people to start to develop life skills and work closely in a team that has a passion to improve their lives whilst in our care.
You will work flexibly to undertake the full range of duties in a well-planned way that respects and values the children and young people as individuals. You will be part of the on-call management team which is done via a rota to ensure that all managers and seniors have an adequate break. When on duty in the absence of the RM and DM you will lead the home by supporting and guiding staff and ensuring the home is safe. You will be required to take responsibility for decisions surrounding staff and children and young people.
As a Children’s Care and Support Worker you are required to have a shared aim to help children and young people to develop insight into their experiences so that they can move on from their often traumatic pasts. Your role is designed to support them as they take steps to make sense of their lives by providing clear and safe boundaries and achievable goals. This includes positive reinforcement strategies such as reward charts and free time.
Central to your work is the need to provide a high level of nurturing which ensures all the basic needs of the children and young people are met to the highest standard. This includes being part of a home that has a warm and friendly atmosphere where great emphasis is placed on building supportive relationships and positive attachments. This role is a vital cog in the wheel of ensuring children and young people are kept safe from harm, abuse and neglect and they are empowered to speak up.
You will have continued face to face contact with some of the most vulnerable children in our society therefore you are a role model, and your skills, knowledge and experience will be paramount to the development of these children and young people. Your role is varied and includes arranging and taking part in activities, understanding the importance of blended learning ad the development of the children and young people. Showing empathy and understanding even in times where behaviour is challenging and confusing.
The role has a level of responsibilities for the children, young people and the team you work in. You will be required to have an input in to care planning and Positive Behaviour Support strategies. Assessing risk both inside and outside the home and communicating this with you Seniors and Managers.
